Brendan Rodgers insists Charly Musonda’s clearly still a Celtic player – despite talk the Belgian international has ben recalled by his principal club Chelsea.
Rodgers led his side to a hard-fought 3-1 victory at Tynecastle over Hearts on Sunday afternoon but this was achieved withouth the services of the Chelsea loanee, who missed out on another squad without any explanation as to why before the game.
Musonda has only just eight appearances for Celtic since joining them on an 18-month loan at the end of January in a bid to serve as competition for Callum McGregor and the likes.
The majority of this eight appearances he has with the Hoops has mainly been a start from off the bench, so it’s not been an ideal start to his life in Scotland.
But his manager has insists Musonda’s still a Celtic player and is only back at Chelsea recovering from an injury.
Rodgers speaking to BT Sport on Sunday after their game with Hearts, was asked if Musonda is still at the club and he responded:
“Yep – Charly hurt his shoulder in the week when he was away and he’s obviously gone back to Chelsea to get treatment on that.
“So he may or may not feature between now and the end of the season, but he’s obviously a Chelsea player and they want to look at him to see if he’s ok.”
So he’s still a Celtic player, but is injured? You do wonder if it’s inevitable that the loan will be cancelled in the summer if Musonda fails to make another appearances for the club between now and the end of the season.
