According to a report, Premier League Chelsea FC could confirm the appointment of former Napoli head-coach Maurizio Sarri as Antonio Conte this week.
Chelsea have been in lock horns with the Serie A club’s president over the appointment of the 59-year-old Italian as their new head-coach for the upcoming season all through the summer, and have been facing many snags along the way.
Sarri, despite being recently replaced by Bayern Munich’s former boss Carlo Ancelotti, is still tied with Napoli and it will take any of his suitors – only Chelsea though – a reported a £4.5m compensation fee to free him from his deal.
The fee has been a major blow for Chelsea to sanction according to reports as they would also have to put together an hefty package for departing Conte and his backroom staff, who have been resigned to losing their jobs since midway through last season.
According to The Sun via Sports Mole, reported that Sarri could be finally be in London within the next 24 hours, and with him to the Stamford Bridge would likely be Aleksandr Golovin from CSKA Moscow in a £27m transfer as his first summer transfer business as Chelsea manager.
The Russian midfielder, who’s currently representing his country at the World Cup tournametn, has attracted strong interest from a number of clubs with Arsenal former Arsene Wenger tried all he could to lure him to the Emirates before his retirement.
