Sheffield United and Burnley plotting transfer move for Nottingham Forest star

Sheffield United and Burnley are both reportedly weighing up a summer transfer move to sign Nottingham Forest center-back Joe Worrall, according to Alex Nixon of The Sun.

Sean Dyche would be keen on signing the Forest defender should Ben Gibson finally make his return to Middlesbrough, whilst Sheffield, on the other hand, will be looking to bolster their backline after some late-season injuries contributed to their chances of European competition for next season.

Worrall, 23, played in all his side Championship game last season, as the Reds missed out on the playoffs in heartbreaking fashion on the final day of the championship. In such a scenario, it is unlikely that Nottingham will be willing to let their defender leave the club easily. The center-back is just the latest Forest player to attract transfer attention this summer. Right-back Matty Cash is also a target of Wilder’s owing to some impressive performances in his new role following Sabri Lamouchi’s decision to alter his position.

In all fairness, Worrall would be a very good signing for either Sheffield United or Burnley, but it’s hard to see Nottingham Forest letting go or for cheap.

Worrall has two years left to run on his current contract with the club so they are not in a position where they need to cash in on the player exactly, so a hefty fee may well be necessary.

A hefty price-tag may well rule Burnley out of the running for the player’s signature. The Lancashire based club had to let a number of players leave the club following the Covid-19 outbreak shutting down events as they did not have the funds to extend their contracts until the end of July.

Sheffield United, however, may be in a better position but we will have to wait and see. The market is very unpredictable at the moment.
