Our days of seeing only Strikers, Wingers, attacking midfielders and full-backs as fastest players as over a fifth of this list is Aston Villa defender Bjorn Engels.
This may be giving you but the Belgian defender is said to have clocked 22.9mph placing him fifth in the fastest players in the Premier League. Just like Saint-Maximin, Engels joined the Villans last summer for a fee reported to be €8 million from Ligue 1 club Reims. -
Kyle Walker
If you are a Premier League fan you won’t be surprised by this name. Kyle Walker is fourth on this list or should we say fifth as he is tied with Engels as the City player is on the same clock speed as him which is 22.9mph.
Walker has always been a top player even before he joined Manchester City in the summer of 2017 from Tottenham Hotspur for £50 million reported to be one the most expensive football transfers. Phil Foden
Third, on this list Phil Foden, who is the second Manchester City player to make the list after Walker. Having graduated from City’s academy, Foden has very well secured a place for himself in Pep Guardiola’s team.
The 19-year-old has highly been regarded to be one of the best midfielders in the League as he has been tipped by Guardiola to be the successor to David Silva’s spot, who has been confirmed to leave the club by the end of the season. For someone who is to replace Silva, Foden speed is something to worry about after clocking 23.1mph so far gone this season placing third in the list for the fastest players in the Premier League, the player might just do more than replace Silva at the Etihad Stadium.
-
Shane Long
Second, is probably one of the most unexpected, first and only striker on this list Shane Long. The Southampton striker, who spent the majority of his career playing in the English top-flight, proved that age matters not when it comes to speed.
The Irishman has been spotted on the pitch sprinting faster with the ball than players 10 years younger than him. The 32-year-old striker clocked 23.2mph to be second on the list for fastest players in the Premier League.
-
Caglar Soyuncu
The greatest shock in this article is Leicester City centre-back Caglar Soyuncu taking the first spot as the fastest player in the Premier League. But may not see this as a shock considering how well they have seen the defender trackback from an attacking position and where the Foxes are on the League table.
The Turkish defender, who joined the Foxes from Bundesliga side Freiburg in 2018, has been pivotal for his English team as he has made the headlines several times this season. Now he is making the headlines as one of the fastest Premier League players this season so far after clocking 23.3mph.
Soyuncu didn’t just break last season record of 21.95mph – set by Timothy Fosu-Mensah while playing on loan for Fulham – he set a new record and it is only four months into 2019/20 campaign. All players in the league have five months of football to beat the record set by the Leicester City star.
