According Sky Sports sources in Italy, Chelsea are reportedly in talks with Atletico Madrid over the signing of Stefan Savic. Since joining the La Liga club from Fiorentina in the summer of 2015, the 25-year-old has become a regular mainstay in the Rojiblancos first-team fold.
With the future of David Luiz looking more bleak, the Blues are considering the signing of the Ateltico defender as the Brazilian replacement this summer.
Luiz has been down the pecking order under Antonio Conte due to his fallut with the Italian boss and has just 12 months on his deal at the club. He spent majority of this past season seating on the bench and was only able to register just 10 Premier League appearances for the club.
With the likes of Gary Cahill, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen likely to remain at the club this summer, the Blues will need a new face in defence. Savic could be that missing cog in Chelsea defence. He could be on his way back to the Premier League six years after he left the following an unimpressive spell at Manchester City.
The Montenegro centre-back has seen his career rejuvenated. He’s registered 110 appearances for the La Liga club across all competitions in the last three years and helped Diego Simeone’s side to the Europa League triumph last season. Although, Simeone will likely want to keep the centre-back, so the Blues might struggle convincing the club to sell him.
However, Chelsea could face stiff competition from Juventus in the signing of the centre-back. Sky Italia report that the Italian champions are eyeing a move for him this summer. Juve have an ageing backline, with the likes of Giorgio Chiellini (33), Andrea Barzagli (37), Mehdi Benatia (31), and Benedikh Howedes (30) who age are on their side, so Chelsea have a tough task beating Juventus to the signing of the centre-back.
