According to reports, Premier League club Chelsea are interested in signing Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel this summer.
Chelsea have Thibaut Courtois as their number one choice between the sticks and the Belgian has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer. And in light of this, the Blues have already start lining up move for replacements.
Chelsea, however, are likely to face strong competition from Italian giants AS Roma as Sky Sports confirms the Serie A club are eyeing move for him as replacement to Alisson Becker who looks likely to join Real Madrid this summer.
Although, Schmeichel is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League his signing won’t be regarded as an upgrade to either Courtois on Alisson.
The goalkeeper was impressive against Croatia in the World Cup and he managed to save three penalties in one game. He’s a good option between the sticks but a club like Chelsea with better option should look for better options.
It will be interesting to see whether Chelsea would make a move for the 2016/17 Premier League winner this summer. He was an integral part of the Foxes team that won the league this year. Chelsea will have to break the bank in order to secure his signing this summer.
The Foxes are also expected to lose Riyad Mahrez this summer and selling one of their key player in the same window might not be a good decision to make. For a team like Leicester City, the sale of their goalkeeper would be another record departure in the club history with their last two record deals was also with Chelsea N’Golo Kante (£32.22m) and Danny Drinkwater (£34.11m) both joined Chelsea in 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 transfer windows.
