Sky Sports are reporting that Arsenal are in talks to with Sevilla over the signing of French midfielder Steven N’Zonzi as Unai Emery continues to overhaul his squad this summer.
The Gunners have already completed move for goalkeeper Bernd Leno, centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos and right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner this summer while a deal to sign Sampdoria defensive midfielder Lucas Torreira is expected to be completed next week after Uruguay were knocked out of the World Cup yesterday.
However, the exit of Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere has left an huge hole at the Emirates, and this could see the Gunners for two central midfielders which explains why N’Zonzi has emerged as a prime target in recent weeks.
Emery is very aware of N’Zonzi’s ability and what his presence mean in a team having both worked together at Sevilla where they won two Europa League trophies together. A reunion looks to be on cards as Sky Sports claim the Gunners are locked in talks with the La Liga club about a potential deal for the Frenchman.
Sky Sports are citing report from Spanish outlet El Confidencial that reported last week that N’Zonzi have handed in a formal transfer request to help push through his transfer to Arsenal. This come in wake of Arsenal’s £13.2m offer getting rejected.
N’Zonzi is said to have two years to run on his current deal with Sevilla and he has a buyout clause at around £35m but Sevilla could sanction his transfer if Arsenal can increase their to around £22m.
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will be willing to match Sevilla’s asking price this summer but with lot of ambitions to met for the club this summer, and with Steven N’Zonzi past success record with Emery, the Frenchman could be a Gunners next season.
