The Daily Express reported on Friday that Celtic’s Stuart Armstrong is a target for Premier League club Crystal Palace this summer.
The report from the tabloid added that the Celtic midfielder could command as much as £4 million, and for that fee, selling the midfielder is a no-brainer.
The Scot is a talented midfielder, but only has one year to run on his contract according to Transfermkt who rates him at €2 million and Celtic would be wise to take the money and ship him out.
Not only that, but Armstrong’s form dropped massively in a big way last season, only scoring four goals across all competitions, having found the net with 17 goals in the 2016/17 season.
It was reported last August according to The Sun that then Premier League club Swansea City was considering a move for him and was worth around £6 million and his obvious decline is representative by the significant drop in asking price.
Even if Rodgers can tie him down to a new deal, where’s the evidence that he is going to get back to his best next season? And if he doesn’t, who’s to say that his price tag won’t drop again this time next year?
Some Celtic fans would be sad to see him go this time, but a manager of Brendan Rodgers’s nous in the transfer market can do a lot with £4 million.
