Celtic were were once agin dominant in the past season as they managed to secure the Scottish Premiership title, the Scottish Cup and the Scottish League Cup. However, Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers vying for more success of the team next season and more importantly, their performances at the European competitions.
The Glasgow champions struggled to taste any success in Europe this season and they finished third in the Champions League group although, Celtic were drawn with the likes of Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain after they went on to lose Zenit Saint Petersburg in the Europa League round of 32.
In this bid, it’s reported that the club are considering move for another striker this summer as Moussa Dembele was not really impressive in the past season, leaving the club fans having flashback of Celtic legend Henrik Larsson’s time at the club.
Larsson, during his time with Celtic managed to bagged 242 goals for the club and nailed himself as arguably the club best striker to have ever don the white and green shirt. And, it’s fair to say that the club are yet to be a striker who can replicate such a great form since Larsson departure. Larsson helped Celtic secure four Scottish Premiership titles, two Scottish League Cups and also don the Scottish Premiership top scorer five times whilst winning the UEFA-Cup top scorer back in 02/03.
That being said, I believe Celtic signing Sardar Azmoun who is valued at £8.1 million would be Celtic’s new Larsson as he boasts of impressive record at international level, and also managed to score five goals with six assists in 28 appearances across all competition for Russian side Rubin Kazan this season.
Azmoun, will be jetting off to Russia with the rest of Iran’s squad for the World Cup, so Celtic will be sure to keep as eye on the striker when the tournament begins. And, with Azmoun already boasting of 23 goals in 32 international appearances, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the player challenging for the Golden Boot.
Azmoun is comparable to the Celtic legend as he uses his brilliant pace and skill to put himself into different positions, with his killer instinct in front of goal. Therefore, Celtic may boast of a new club legend signing the Iranian this summer, as he has already shown that he can score goals both domestically and in the Champions League.
