Arsenal could move for Schalke midfielder Max Meyer if Jack Wilshere eventually leaves the club this summer, according to CalcioMercato.
The Italian football outlet report that the 22-year-old is on Arsenal’s radar, who are bracing themselves for the potential exit of academy graduate Wilshere.
The Italian news outlet claim that Milan are also tracking the Germany international, who is out of contract at the end of the season and will be available for free.
It is said that the Serie A giants sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli met one of the player’s agent recently, but the hunt for Meyer will be tough with Arsenal also interested.
Wilshere, who has been keen to Arsenal’s hopes this season, is also out of contract this summer, and may leave the Emirates for free if he does not agree a new contract at the club.
If the England international does leave this summer, then Arsenal will need to bring in an able replacement who will walk in straight and replace the Englishman, and Meyer – who according to Transfermkt is rated at £15m – could be that man capable.
In truth, Arsenal are looking weak in central midfield anyeay, so a move for Meyer may be advisable anyway. There will no doubt be a lot of competition for the player this summer.
It is not often that a young Germany international is available for free, and Meyer will be in big demand. Therefore, Arsenal will need to be quick if they want to snap him up.
